Dr. Lattal received his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Alabama in 1969. Following two years in the US Army as a research psychologist and a NIMH post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD), he joined the WVU faculty in 1972. He has remained at WVU since that time, with semester-long appointments at Auburn University (1987), UCSD (1989), and University College London (1997). During the 2004-2005 academic year he was a visiting professor at Université Charles de Gaulle in Lille, France. Dr. Lattal is currently the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences Centennial Professor of Psychology and Coordinator of the Behavior Analysis Program.

Of the many things about psychology that interest Dr. Lattal, the work that he finds most rewarding is that which he does with students, both graduate and undergraduate. This work includes classroom experiences, research with student collaborators in his laboratory, and, as time and student interests permit, experiences in applied settings with pets.
