CESTA is launching in the summer of 2016

Outreach Mission: Society is increasingly dependent on science and technology and many of the most significant current societal challenges are related to these fields (for example disease, overpopulation, hunger, clean drinking water, etc.). The role of science is to solvent these problems and to promote social, technological, and economic advancement.  Unfortunately, a large fraction of our nation has developed chemophobia, an irrational fear of chemicals.  Our research and findings hold little value unless we (scientists) are able to effectively communicate those findings to the public.

It is our responsibility as scientists to improve our communication with the public and to build science literacy. The future of our world depends on how we choose to use our scientific and technological advances and our ability to communicate our science to the public.

CESTA is an NSF funded program designed to bring together students in the science, engineering and art disciplines to design and build an interactive science-art installation in Morgantown. The objective of the program is to train and encourage students from all disciplines to educate and engage the people of Morgantown, and their own communities, to discuss science as it pertains to our daily lives and decisions, and to introduce the beauty of science through art and understanding.
