Hawk-eye: A smart camera network testbed for surveillance

As part of our efforts to design and evaluate camera network systems for surveillance, we are building a portable, wirelessly programmable, distributed camera testbed. Most existing camera network systems and testbeds rely on transporting all data to a central server or a server cluster for data processing. In some systems, the local processing is emulated by multiple processes at a server cluster that still involves transporting of collected multimedia data. In Hawk-eye, individual hawks are equipped with a ARM+DSP processor combination that can be programmed to locally process the data and easily communicate with peers as well as the server on a wireless medium.
