Artificial Intelligence in Echocardiography

Partho P. Sengupta, MD, MBBS, FACC

Dr. Partho P. Sengupta, MD, MBBS, FACC, is the Henry Rutgers Professor and the Chief of Division of Cardiology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Dr Sengupta completed his clinical residency and cardiology fellowship from Mayo Clinic Rochester and Arizona in 2007 and 2010 respectively. He has a over 300 peer-reviewed publications. He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of American College of Cardiology for Cardiovascular Imaging, has served as a Board of Director for the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) and as the Chair of the ASE Telehealth and New Technology Taskforce. Prior to his role at Rutgers, he served as Abnash C Jain Chair and Professor of Cardiology, Chief of Division of Cardiology and Director of Cardiac Imaging at West Virginia University, Morgantown.

He has won several excellence awards with the most recent being the 2023 distinguished Gifted Educator Award from the American College of Cardiology (ACC). Other significant awards include the ASE's Rich Popp Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2020, the AACIO Young Investigator Award in 2010, Mayo Brother's Distinguished Fellowship Award in 2009, Mayo Clinic Research Award in 2007, ASE's Young Investigator Award in 2004, among others. With his futuristic ideas, investigative skills and international work, Dr. Sengupta is widely acclaimed by major media outlets. He delivered ASE’s first-ever presentation using hologram technology at the ASE's 24th Annual Scientific Sessions in 2018. He was nominated by the American Medical Association for the "Inspiration in Medicine" talk, 2017. In 2016, he was invited as stage speaker for TEDMED where he presented on “Using Holography to Reshape Cardiology”. He also received the ASE's 14th Feigenbaum Lectureship for his significant contributions to research in the field of echocardiography in 2013.

David A. Broniatowski, SB, SM, PhD
David A. Broniatowski, received his education (SB, SM, and PhD) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is director of the Decision Making and Systems Architecture Laboratory at George Washington University, Washington DC, where he conducts research in decision making under risk, group decision making, the design and analysis of complex systems, and behavioral epidemiology. This research program draws upon a wide range of techniques including formal mathematical modeling, experimental design, automated text analysis and natural language processing, social and technical network analysis, and big data. His work on systematic distortions of public opinion about vaccines on social media by state-sponsored trolls been widely reported in the academic and popular press.

NRT Mini-Workshop 1 -- on Health Policy

During this workshop, participants will learn about science and technology (S&T) policy by applying policy analysis techniques to one of two digital health policy topics: data privacy or cybersecurity.

Dr. Deborah D. Stine is the Founder & Chief Instructor of the Science & Technology Policy Academy. Previously, she served in the Obama White House as Executive Director of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, a Science & Technology Specialist at the Congressional Research Service, a study director at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, and as a professor of the practice in engineering and public policy at Carnegie Mellon University. In 2023, Dr. Stine was elected a Fellow of the American Association of the Advancement of Science "For her major, long-term contributions to national science and technology policy and the development of the science and technology policy workforce of the future." She received a Carnegie Science Communication award for her ability to explain complex scientific and technical information to policymakers and the public. Dr. Stine has a BS in mechanical and environmental engineering, an MBA, and a Ph.D. in public policy analysis and public administration. Dr. Stine is based in Pittsburgh, PA.
