Conclusion, continued

Further research includes how the government uses means of manipulation other than rhetoric (e.g., withholding or granting largess) to persuade citizens into "relinquishing a right in order to qualify for a privilege," as well as the legality of different coercive measures the government might use "to induce teachers, workers, parents, children, employers and employees to adhere to views and behavior considered proper by the state" (Parker 85-6). Another potential research topic involves evaluating the connection between critical thinking skills, economics, and ethical behavior, such as by analyzing data from other countries about the relationships between (1) education level and economic growth, and (2) education level and crime rates.
