In 2015 the potato industry in Washington State generated approximately 3.07 billion dollars in direct economic output from these five sectors: potato farming, frozen potato processing, fresh packed potatoes, dehydrated potato products and potato chip manufacturing. Most of the state produces potatoes on a planting schedule of March to May and harvest in the months of August through November. The top six varieties produced in the state are the following: Russet Burbank with 31.1 percent, Ranger Russet with 14.4 percent, Russet Norkotah with 13.3 percent, Umatilla Russet with 12.9 percent, Alturas with 5.9 percent and Frito-Lay varieties with 4.2 percent.
