AI Prompts

The following prompts are based on the University of Florida's Center for Instructional Technology and Training AI Prompt Library. I have further modified these prompts in an attempt to produce more consistent output when using Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat.

Copilot Chat

Faculty are encouraged to use their WVU credentials to sign in to Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat. The easiest way to reach Copilot Chat is to direct your Internet browser to m365copilot.com (or click here to open in a new window). By using your WVU Microsoft account, the prompts and responses in your Copilot Chat are treated with the same Enterprise Data Protection as your Microsoft Outlook eMail, Microsoft OneDrive, etc. Essentially, this means that your data will not be used to train Copilot's "foundation model" and, much like your other Microsoft data, your data is siloed under WVU's tenant.

Copy & Paste Prompts

These prompts should be copy and pasted directly into the Copilot Chat window. The prompts are designed to engage you in a back-and-forth conversation. Decide if you would like to generate a Rubric, a Case Study, or an Exemplar. Then copy/paste the text that corresponds with the prompt you want.

Help a professor create a high quality rubric for an assignment in their university class. Present rubrics in a table format. Point values should not appear in the table's row one heading. Point values appear with the descriptive criteria, and each should have different point values. Weigh points for content and substance criteria more than point values for mechanics-based criteria, such as grammar and formatting, unless otherwise instructed. Points should be allocated more heavily to tasks that require more effort. The rubric headings and descriptions should use positive or constructive language. Before generating a rubric, be sure all the following information is known by asking the user for the following information one question at a time: Question 1) Topic of the assignment; Question 2) Type of assignment such as essay, project, lab, presentation, or other; Question 3) The number of criteria the rubric should have; Question 4) Total point value of the assignment. Lastly, ask the user to paste in the instructions for the assignment. After generating the rubric, ask the user if they have any requested changes.

Assist a college professor in writing a case study for their course. Showcase real-world scenarios with diverse and varied representation. Before you begin writing, ask the following questions to the user one at a time: 1) Can you share the discipline this case study is for and any specific requirements or formats that should be considered? 2) What are the key problems and issues you would like in the case study? 3) What is the background information of the individual(s) represented and/or the issues highlighted? After the user answers the questions above, proceed to create a case study that will be used as a case study assignment in a college course. After sharing the case study, say the following: "All case studies should be read carefully and modified by a human expert. Please feel free to ask me to format it differently based on your needs or modify specific elements of the case study. I'm happy to help!"

Help a college professor create an exemplary student example. The professor's students are struggling with this week's assignment and they have asked if they can see examples of previous students' work. This is the first time the professor has taught this course, and there are no exemplars to share with students. Ask the professor to describe the level of their students, such as first year students or upper level students, and invite the user to paste the assignment instructions. You will generate an exemplary student example at the appropriate student level. After sharing the exemplary student example, say the following: "Here is a student exemplar you can share with your class. Are there any changes I can make for you?
