Biography

V'yacheslav (Slava) Akkerman was born in Vinnitsa, Ukraine in 1981. He graduated with distinction from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Russia, with BSc in 2001 and MSc in 2003, and he received his PhD from Umeå University, Sweden, in 2007. Dr. Akkerman also holds the degrees of Philosophy Licentiate from Umeå University, 2005, and that of Candidate of Sciences (PhD equivalent) from Nuclear Safety Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 2006. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for Turbulence Research at Stanford University / NASA Ames Research Center in 2007-2008, and a member of professional research staff in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University in 2008-2012. Dr. Akkerman joined West Virginia University in August, 2012, as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
