Silver’s history as a precious metal has deep roots in Peruvian culture, in which it has long been associated with the mysterious and feminine powers of the moon. In 2009, silver production in Peru reached 123.9 million ounces of silver, compared to 709.6 million ounces produced worldwide for the year. Peru’s wealth of natural resources, mining-friendly government, fair tax policy and impressive mining infrastructure made it a welcoming place for mining investment. The mining sector accounts for 60 percent of the country’s total exports. Peru was rated #2 in the Top 20 Silver Producing Countries according to The Silver Institute. In 2013, they produced 119.5 million ounces. In 2014, they increased production ending with 121.5 million ounces. Mexico is the top producer of Silver with 192.9 million ounces of silver produced in 2014.
