Potatoes need a well drained soil; sandy or sandy loam soils are better than clay soils. Growth is also better on neutral or slightly acidic soils with a pH range of 6 to 7. Irrigating newly planted potatoes helps to cool the soil and get weeds starteg, however warm soil conditions allow bacteria to grow and breakdown the seeds. There are two seasons for planting, spring planting and fall planting;with each planter being set 80cm to 85cm for row spacing and about 20cm to 30cm of space between each seed piece depending on the season you are planting in.
