Potatoes are the leading vegetable crop in the United States and commercially grown in 30 states. In 2016, 1.02 million acres of potatoes were harvested just in the U.S. with the total value of the crop being 3.74 billion dollars. Producing a total of about 19.84 million metric tons per year, the U.S. is the 5th top producer of potatoes on a global scale. Leading buyers of frozen potatoes from the United States include Japan, Mexico, South Korea and Hong Kong; while the leading buyers of fresh potatoes from the U.S. are Canada and Japan.
