Broadly, I have two major research interests: 1) The overt and covert behavioral processes involved in Anxiety Disorders, Depressive Disorders, and comorbid Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD); and 2) How the addition of mindfulness elements to behavioral treatments might affect the aforementioned processes. Pertaining to my first broad interest, my research focuses on understanding the roles attentional biases toward negative or threatening stimuli and behavioral/experiential avoidance play in the development and maintenance of anxiety and mood disorders. Pertaining to my second research interest, I plan to study the effectiveness of treatments that already incorporate mindfulness (e.g., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Functional Analytic Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy) compared to treatments that do not currently have a mindfulness component. I am also very interested in developing new behavioral treatments that incorporate a commitment to functional analysis, exposure, and mindfulness. Additionally, I am passionate about incorporating advanced statistical methods and utilizing a variety of study designs (e.g., correlational, experimental, single subject, cross-sectional) as well as participant populations (e.g., university students, clinical populations, offenders, behavioral health practitioners) into my research. For example, I received training in structural equation modeling while working on my master’s degree at Mississippi State University. Sparks, C. P., Robertson, A. A., Stovall, J. M., & McCluskey, D.
